Extended Essay
The extended essay is an essential component of the IB Diploma Program. It is comparable to a freshmen level college essay. The purpose of the essay is to allow students to engage in independent research and pursue knowledge in a subject area of personal interest. Emphasis is placed on the process of engaging in personal research, on the communication of ideas and information in a logical and coherent manner, and on the overall presentation of the extended essay in compliance with the IB guidelines. Students must carry out research. An extended essay cannot simply be a review of a review.
